The Asia Society. A not-for-profit organization dedicated to educating America about Asian cultures. Often organizes exhibitions and lectures.
Beijing Opera. General Information and sound files.
China WWW Virtual Library. A huge list of links for numerous aspects of China studies.
Chinese Calligraphy. Examples from master calligraphers, essays.
Chinese Movie Database. Searchable database on movies from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and the Chinese diaspora. Information in English, traditional and simplified characters.
Chinese Music Archive. Numerous clips of all kinds of music, from traditional to pop.
Chinese Philosophy Pages. Articles and links on classical Chinese philosophy. Run by Chad Hansen of the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
International Dunhuang Project. Includes a database for and descriptions about the manuscripts from Dunhuang, one of the most significant finds in modern sinology.
National Palace Museum. Located in Taipei, the foremost museum of Chinese art and history. Includes information about exhibits, as well as downloadable screen savers.
YesAsia.com. Look here to keep a bead on Asian pop culture - you can even buy albums here.

International Chinese Language Program
. The "Old Stanford Center," located in Taiwan at National Taiwan University.
Inter-University Program for Chinese Language Studies. Based at Tsinghua University in Beijing and run by a consortium of American universities.
Princeton in Beijing. At Beijing Normal Unversity, more focused on undergraduates than ICLP and IUP.

Chinese Language Information Page. A collection of resources for using Chinese on your computer.
Chinese Pronunciation Guide. Requires RealAudio player, provides examples on pinyin and classroom expressions.
Learning Chinese Online. The University of California at Long Beach, a wealth of links.
Mandarintools.com. A fun site including java flashcards, dictionaries, utilities for using Chinese on a PC, and even a tool that can give Chinese names.
Marjorie Chan's ChinaLinks. Lots of useful links; aimed more at Chinese scholars and educators. Based at The Ohio State University.
Ocrat.com. Aids for Anglophone students of the Chinese language, including animated characters.
Practice Your Pinyin. An online quiz from the University of Iowa.
Sinologic.com. A clever and very attractive site at the University of California, Berkeley. Includes links on learning Chinese and Chinese culture, as well as information on their home-grown software for learning Chinese on a Macintosh.
Study Mandarin Chinese Using VOA. Now part of ocrat.com, radio broadcasts with a host of supporting material, including transcripts. Updated regularly.

Chinese Language Software & Utilities

Chinese Macintosh Home. Hosted by Yale University, a knowledge base for using Chinese (as well as other Asian languages) on the Mac.
Microsoft Windows 2000 Multilanguage Version. Information on Microsoft's best option for Asian language support, Windows2000 Professional. (NB: This will likely change with the release of OfficeXP and WindowsXP.)
NJStar. Downloadable software for using Chinese, Japanese and Korean word processors and communicators. Plus, they're very flexible with their demo policies.
PanALEX. Information and download site for the only Chinese input environment available for Mac OSX.

RTHK. Called "Radio Hong Kong," but actually much more of a multimedia omnibus for what's going on in Hong Kong.
TWnet. A huge site with information about and links to Taiwanese, Chinese and Hong Kong media sources, including online broadcasts.
Xinhua. China's national news service.

Texts Online

Academia Sinica Database. All of the Chinese classics and dynastic histories in a searchable format. Endlessly useful.
Chinese Philosophical Etext Archive. Can't find your copy of Mencius? This site has standard (Zhonghua shuju) editions of many philosophical classics.
CND. Complete texts for most of the Chinese classics.
I Ching on the Net. Yijing text and commentaries, with translations.

Dictionaries

Chinese Character Geneology (zhongwen.com). Learn the didactic etymology of Chinese characters - look up that Chinese tattoo before it's too late!
Lexicon of Confucianism. What did he really mean by the "Rectification of Names"? The Chinese University of Hong Kong points us in the right direction.
