PRE-RECORDING SET UP

Note: Most of the images in these instructions are from the Macintosh version of Audacity, but the application is nearly identical for the PC. Also, because of the size of sound files, you will need to save your files on a Zip® disk.
To start Audacity, click the Audacity icon at the bottom of the screen (see Fig. 1).

Audacity will open and you should see a window similar to the one below (Fig. 2):

Before you start recording, select Preferences from the File drop down menu. You should see a window like the one below.

Click on the Audio I/O tab and make sure the Play other tracks while recording new one box is checked. Also, make sure that Mono is selected under Recording. Recording in stereo makes for much larger files.
