RECORDING YOUR OWN VOICE IN RESPONSE TO A TRACK

In some cases, you may need to record your responses to a sound track. To do this, first import the appropriate track. To record a separate track with your voice, first go to File and Preferences and you will see a window like the one below (Fig. 10):

Click on the Audio I/O tab and make sure that the checkbox marked Play other tracks while recording new one is checked, then click OK
To record a track with your voice while listening to a track, click the Record button (right hand button with circle) and speak at the appropriate places. When you have finished, click the Stop button (middle button with square). Remember: you may need to scroll down or expand the window to see your track.
To export a track, select the track by clicking anywhere inside the control box (other than on the actual control buttons) at the left end of the track, then go to File and Export selection as MP3 (Fig. 11):

At this point, you should give the file a title. When you are done, click Save. A window similar to the one below should appear next (Fig. 12):

This is information is useful for music recording, but unnecessary for our purposes. Click OK
 

Closing Audacity

To close Audacity, select Quit from the File menu at the top of the screen. When you quit Audacity, you will be asked if you wish to save the project before closing. Answer NO since you have already saved your work when you exported your selected track(s).
