Arabic Typing Manual
Typing in Arabic is simple once the IME (Input Method Editor) is installed. Select the program you want to type in and then select the Arabic IME (keyboard), by clicking on Arabic. You can see this being done in the pictures.

If you follow the directions you will install the Arabic keyboard on a Mac, and the Arabic (101) keyboard on the Windows. You can see a layout for those keyboards below. You can also see the keyboard you are using by enabling the on-screen keyboard. The alternative phonetic keyboards are not particularly helpful. Arabic sounds are generally too different to make a good phonetic keyboard. You can see the layout of those keyboards on the on-screen keyboard.
