The Anderson Language and Technology Center at the University of Colorado Boulder is home to language learning materials, classrooms with staff support, and instructional development facilities. We are located to the south of Norlin Quad, in the Hellems Arts & Sciences Building, west of the University Memorial Center (UMC). ALTEC, located on the first floor and wheelchair accessible on the west side of the building, consists of a library, two classrooms, and three development rooms.
The ALTEC Multimedia Library (Hellems 159) is a language education resource center for the University of Colorado. This resource library contains a large collection of foreign language films, textbooks, magazines, CDs, books, and other language learning materials from around the world. The library was designed with the language student in mind and because of this, we supply all of the latest technology that one might need to excel in one's target language. This includes seven PC and seven Mac desktop computers as well as electronics available for loan such as laptops, laptop adaptors, video cameras, microphones, and iPads. Our highly trained student staff is ready to assist you.
In addition, the members of our student staff are also native speakers of and/or study a range of languages including English, French, German, Hindi, Italian, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, and Tibetan. If you would like to practice your speaking and listening skills, stop by the front desk to chat with our student staff in your target language.
Within the library we have a set of long tables, and a divided space (The Cube) that can be reserved; each area can seat seat ten individuals. All of our furniture is moveable and we welcome people of all abilities and backgrounds. These spaces are used for groups meetings, playing games, office hours, project planning sessions, study groups, tutoring, and language events such as coffee and conversation meetups.

The PC Classroom (Hellems 152) has a capacity of 39 and is used for watching films, teleconferencing, and computer-assisted language learning activities. It is located directly across from the Norlin Quad entrance to Hellems. This smart classroom is set up for both individual and group activities and is equipped with 18 PC laptops, 8 touchscreen PC desktops, and a projector. When you are ready to make a reservation, please view the schedule then email firstname.lastname@example.org. Reservations are available four weeks prior to the beginning of the semester, though earlier requests by language groups may be considered. HLMS 152 PC Classroom
The Mac Classroom (Hellems 145) has a capacity of 38 and is similar to the PC Classroom. This space has 12 Mac laptops, 6 large-screen Mac desktop computers for group work, and a projector for teleconferencing, viewing films, and computer instruction. This room is generally open to students for daily use, but can be reserved for classes and other events. HLMS 145 Mac Classroom
There are three development rooms available at the back of room 152. These rooms can be used for a variety of activities and accommodate two people each. The recording studio provides an excellent environment for recording native speakers, or interviews. The tutor room is often used for private instruction or a quiet area for office hours. The development room has a PC and Mac setup with specialized software and a scanner for digitizing language learning materials. ALTEC staff is always on hand to offer technological support.
